Council fails to help elderly resident

lloyd-cutting-tree.jpgOutraged by the Council’s refusal to help an elderly lady in Allandale, Cllr Lloyd Harris took action to do the job himself.

The problem was the lady was restricted to her home due her frailty. Overgrown bushes and trees in her garden were preventing light from entering her rooms. She had to keep her lights on day and night.

Lloyd with help removed a large tree branch, thus allowing light to return to her home. The grateful resident thanked him and said “this is the first time in years that I have turned my light off in the daytime”.

Reduction of Recycling Facilities

recycling-logo-3.jpg

At the Dacorum Council Environment Committee on Tues 9th September I heard about plans to save money by a reduction of service in the Borough Council’s 36 sites where people can bring their recycling.

As a result of questioning from me, the Council admitted the review would look at removing some of the smaller sites and reducing what is collected at others.

Death of a Post Office

po-sign.jpgOn Tuesday I was called by the Gazette with the sad news of the closure of the Heights Post Office counter within the Co-op.

I said in my interview to the paper “It just shows that all the post ofice is interested in is money rather than providing a service.”
The full newspaper report is on their website

Paston Road Garages

paston-rd-garages2.jpgHaving been alerted to the state of the Paston Road garages by a resident of Fletcher Way, I have managed to get the Council to board up the two garages that were vandalised.

Mitie, the Council’s contractors will fit new metal doors, however they are unable to give me a date when they will be installed.

500+ Sign to save the Post Office

po-sign.jpg Over 500 signatures were collected in the save the Heights Post Office petitions, one by Cllr Brenda Link and myself and another initiated by a local resident.

In my interview with the Gazette on 6th August I said “The surprising thing was how widely distributed the names listed in the petition were. It shows that the Post Office is not just used by people of Highfield but by people from all over.

“A lot of people that visit the Co-op or the neighbouring shops will pop into the Post Office because it is there.”

Two Meetings in Two Days

manpointing.jpgTonight I attended a committee of the council and spoke out against the closure of Post Offices across Dacorum including the Heights in Highfield.
My fellow Councillor Brenda Link has an article on her site on the campaign to save the Heights. http://brendalink.mycouncillor.org.uk/
The whole committee agreed to get Dacorum Council to write in objection to the closure of all the five threatened Post Offices.

Last Night at Full Council I took the opportunity to condemn the Council’s plan to drastically cut bedding plants and hanging baskets. All hanging baskets will be removed from neighbourhood shopping centres including those in Highfield next year.
