Cllr Lloyd Harris

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Highfield Ward, Hemel Hempstead

New Car Park Charges

greedcar.jpgOn the evening of Tuesday 30th October Liberal Democrat Cllrs Lloyd Harris and Nick Hollinghurst spoke at the Dacorum Borough Council Cabinet Meeting against plans to remove the first hour free from the Tring and Boxmoor car parks. They also opposed charging in the Borough’s car parks on Sundays and Bank Holidays and proposals to offer parking season tickets in a trial in Tring without any discount. After lengthy discussion the Cabinet agreed to a blanket 20% increase on car parking across the Borough, to retain the first free hour in Tring and Cowper Road, Boxmoor, not to introduce Sunday and Bank Holiday charging and to offer a discount in the season ticket trial in Tring, which the Liberal Democrats hope to be at least 10%.

Cllr Harris said “I thank the Cabinet for Dacorum for agreeing with our proposals.” He added, “This will help maintain local shops in Tring and Boxmoor and make life easier for Tring residents with nowhere else to park other than Forge Car Park. A discounted season ticket will be much easier for them than putting coins in the meters every morning!”

Cllr Hollinghurst added, “The proposal to charge for Sundays and Bank Holidays would have meant an expensive shift for the wardens and so would not have brought in much net revenue. It would just have made the Borough Council look mean. I’m glad they agreed to drop this proposal.”
